Alright, here we go! I apologize to whoever has been following along day by day for the gap in time. I went on a small camping trip with my boyfriend, and guess what? I'm going to tell you all about it.
We've been saying for months we need a vacation from this place, so we put one together. So Day 1, the first day is always the worst. We were itching to get out in the woods and to get away from out shitty town. We were driving around, left and right, going here and there, town to town, to pick up last minute items. But the original plan was to wake up at 4am, drop his Grandmother off at work, then take the car to do last minute errands, and then get to the campsite nice and EARLY to set up camp and relax the rest of the day. Did any of that happen? Well, some of it, but not really. He had woke up early, did the drop off thing, then came back to the house. He gave me the choice to stay in bed or go for the ride, and if you know me at all (which over time, you will), I chose to stay in bed. (Not a morning person, never have been, never will be. :P ) By the time he came back, fell back asleep, and we both woke up, it was eleven o'clock, not as early as we were hoping to leave the house, but we rushed out the door. *Insert running around here* We got to the campsite about one which was check-in. We ended up getting a nice little spot on top of a hill near the main entrance. It wasn't glamorous, but it was a spot nonetheless. Here is where all the frustrations made their way into the day. Well, I was already frustrated because I delayed our trip, we spent close to $80-90 on groceries, and his mother was frankly just being a pain between me, her son, and her mother. But anyways, my point being, the frustrations just continued on. Our major enemy this entire trip was the weather. Day one, it was windy as ever. Rob (my boyfriend) and I began pitching up our main tent and that was when we learned, the wind just wasn't about it. Also, our site was on a hill so bad, the provided picnic table was at a slant no matter where we moved it to, so that was fun. Once we finally got the tents up, Rob wasn't happy with the way they looked. Which, I will agree, they weren't the best looking tents, but it was good enough. We then unloaded the rest of the car, put stuff in the cooler and the storage tent and tried to turn the day around as best as possible. Now, I was a grumpy gills the whole time, like up until we made the decision to go kayaking. I LOVE kayaking, like alot alot. I used to go kayaking once or twice a summer through one of my favorite camps, but once I hit Junior year of high school, I was no longer able to attend. But my point is, I haven't been on the water in a good while, so I was highly fond of this idea. We ended up throwing on our bathing suits and renting a double kayak for about an hour, which may or may not have been a little longer than that. Once we hit the water, things mellowed out immensely. It was interesting because the (man made) pond was split into three different sections, and each section was connected by pipe tunnels. It was a tight squeeze at first, and we were unsure as to whether or not we were allowed in these pipes, but low and behold, they were totally there for that purpose. They were fascinating because each one had it's own art piece inside: one was a starry night with planets and galaxy, another one had a dragon in it, which was Rob's favorite, and I believe the other one had an octopus and sea creatures painted on the inside. It was all done with what looked like spray paint, but it made it a bit magical in my head. Behind the main ponds, there was another section that was not "cleared out," plant life remained as an important component to the pond. There was algae, lily pads, tall grass, and we had seen some fish as well as a turtle! We grew fond of these ponds, and decided we needed to come back into the water at least once each of the following days of the trip.
Once we returned to the site, we were thrilled to get our first fire going. We threw some burgers on the grill rack and I made some roasted veggies for myself. After we ate dinner, we ended up making s'mores together, because camping isn't camping without "delicious, hot, schmoes!"
And yes, the Disney reference was ABSOLUTELY necessary. . .
